According to new reports, fans of the Metroid Prime games could be in for a treat towards the end of this year. As reported in Gamesradar+, a remastered version of Metroid Prime is expected to release during the latter part of 2022. This game will then be followed up with two brand new versions of Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3.
The new information comes courtesy of industry insider Jeff Grub, speaking on Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings podcast earlier today. According to Grubb, the Metroid Prime remaster is more or less a dead cert for a November to Christmas-time release window, claiming to have been informed “pretty definitively” that the game is en route as one of Nintendo’s “big holiday games.”
This would tie in with the game’s 20th anniversary which takes place this November. Fans will have to wait and see a bit nearer the time as to how accurate this new tip actually is. However, Grubb also points out that the first game in the Metroid Prime franchise will be the only one getting a remaster this year. The following two sequels are also “pretty much done,” says Grubb. With that said, it makes sense that if Nintendo does release the Metroid Prime remaster this year, fans shouldn’t expect the remastered versions of Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 until some time later.
Metroid Prime remastered is expected to be reworked completely with modernised, dual-analog controls and gyro-aiming support. It’s unclear as to whether or not the sequels will be overhauled to the same degree, but in terms of controls and gyroscopic aim, Grubb says they’ll probably get the same kind of treatment as the first remaster.
