Rare Ltd., who released the 30-game collection Rare Replay earlier this year, confirmed on Twitter today that the collection will not make its way to Wii U. The Microsoft-owned studio has heard the fan questions, and wanted to dispel any lingering rumors, stating that both the studio and the collection are “exclusive to Xbox One.”
Lots of Qs about Wii U! But #RareReplay’s exclusive to Xbox One, and we’re hard at work on Sea of Thieves. Appreciate the enthusiasm though!

There was speculation earlier this month that the Rare Replay collection would release on Wii U, especially after Microsoft announced that Minecraft was coming to the Nintendo platform. The Microsoft Studios Twitter account even directed fans to ask Rare about the situation. Rare’s final, official comments come on the heels of Microsoft Studios saying yesterday that it had no knowledge of any other Microsoft games going to Wii U “at this time.”
Minecraft on Wii U is hardly a surprise, as Microsoft will want to make as much of its $2.5 billion acquisition as it can, making sure to service the franchise’s fans no matter what platform they play on. Rare Replay, on the other hand, is in a different position, and there wouldn’t be as much reason for Microsoft to release the collection on Nintendo platforms.
