Aviary Attorney Alights Across Steam On December 19

December 13, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

The birdbrained attorney is facing four of the toughest cases of his career, with dire consequences if he loses.

A year, a week, and two days after its Kickstarter was launched, Aviary Attorney is finally releasing on Steam.

It’s been a straightforward journey for an unusual project. It reappropriates the work of 19th century caricaturist JJ Grandville.

Although widely forgotten, JJ’s fully illustrated book Scenes from the Public and Private Lives of Animals finds new relevance today, for its use of animals as humanlike characters. Today, developer Sketchy Logic has taken JJ’s amazing lithographs to tell a new story about a birdbrained attorney.

In Aviary Attorney, you play Jayjay Falcon, a basically decent defense attorney facing four of the toughest cases in his career. Unlike Ace Attorney, if Jayjay loses a case, the story continues. However, as you may imagine, the tone of the story starts getting darker from then on.

Aviary Attorney raised 18,917 British pounds, or roughly $ 287,000, for what was partly restoration work, partly game development. Sketchy Logic has done a great job recreating the look and feel of 19th century illustration in their menus, UIs, and previews. I personally hope the gameplay lives up to the premise’s promise.

Aviary Attorney goes live on Steam on December 19. Do you think you’ll be getting it immediately, or waiting for a Steam Sale? Share your thoughts with us in the comments. You can also watch the launch trailer above.
