Warhammer 40,000: Dark Nexus Arena, Games Workshop’s take on the MOBA genre and developed by Whitebox Interactive, will be coming to Steam Early Access on Dec. 9, 2015.
The multiplayer online battle arena game revolves around using only skill shots as the method by which players attack and often move around the battlefield. That means that all spells must be aimed by the player, instead of simply targeting an enemy and letting the in-game systems determine whether or not the target was struck. Players can also dash in any direction in order to dodge incoming attacks.
The battlefield itself does not adhere to the traditional three-lane structure of most MOBAs, opting instead of a more open field on which players can challenge each other. These battlefields are central locations in the Dark Eldar capital of Commorragh, “where captured gladiators of different races from the Warhammer 40,000 universe are enslaved and forced to fight each other to the death for the amusement of their captors.”
Dark Nexus Arena entered closed alpha in May 2015 and then eventually closed beta. It is being built using the Unity 5 engine.
