During the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Activision Blizzard announced thre pieces of major news for Overwatch 2. The game will release in Early Access on PC and consoles on October 4. Coming with this launch is a brand new tank hero, Junker Queen. Finally, the PvP mode of Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play for all players, unlike the original game.
After a successful beta, the sequel to Overwatch is finally moving towards a full release. The game will enter its Early Access on October 4. If the beta was only available on PC, the full game will also run on consoles.
The latest hero to join the roster is the ruler of Junkertown, Junker Queen. We don’t know much about this tank hero yet, but Activision Blizzard will reveal more about her during the game’s Reveal Event on Thursday, June 16. Another hero is making their debut with the upcoming release–Sojourn. This damage hero specializes in mid-range gameplay and her kit provides her with great mobility and artillery.
Unlike the original game, the PvP mode of Overwatch 2 will be free-to-play. The game will also feature a PvE mode for those who do not like fighting against other players. Blizzard has not yet announced whether this mode would be paying or free.
“We can’t wait to roll out the beginning of the Overwatch 2 experience on October 4 and introduce an exciting new competitive vision, featuring a reimagining of the iconic heroes, maps, and gameplay that made the original game so compelling,” said Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment. “This is the beginning of an always-on and always-evolving era for the franchise, and a recommitment to serving players with frequent and substantial updates planned well into the future to keep Overwatch 2 fresh and fun for many years to come.”
Overwatch 2 will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on October 4.
