Square Enix has just announced that it will be presenting a 25th-anniversary celebration event for Final Fantasy VII. The livestream will be broadcast on June 16th, and it will take place at 6 PM ET, 3 PM PT, and 11 PM BST.
This was announced in a Tweet from the official game account reading, “Join us next week for around 10 minutes to celebrate 25 years of @FinalFantasy VII.” It also asks viewers to “please be excited.”
Character designer and creative director Tetsuya Nomura followed up on this by saying that it will be “short and sweet, but packed with lots of information.” He also hopes that “everyone can look forward to the unveiling.” The stream will be available to watch on the official Square Enix YouTube account. The link to this can be viewed below.
So, what can we expect to see in this short celebratory live stream for the legendary JRPG? Nomura’s Tweet used the hashtags #FF7R and #FF7FS. We can assume these are referring to Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier. First Soldier is a recent free-to-play battle royale game for mobile devices. It was released late last year, so any new information might relate to updates for the game.
Final Fantasy VII fans are waiting with bated breath for any news about the sequel to FFVII Remake. During a stream for First Soldier last month, Nomura mentioned that there would be new information about VII’s anniversary coming, but that he wasn’t sure “how far I’m allowed to share.” That’s a cryptic line, and we hope that it’s a prelude to a full reveal for the next game in this new remake series.
Alternatively, the news could relate to Final Fantasy VII finally being released on other platforms. It won’t be long until we find out for sure.
