The Halo series has its fair share of iconic weapons such as the energy sword and the needler, but 343 Industries' franchise director Frank O'Connor has told Techland he would "love" to explore the Halo universe without guns.
"I’d love to go do a xenoarcheological expedition to the original Halo ring," O'Connor said, as way of example. "You know, take some scientists down, drive around, catch samples, do some detective work, maybe there’s a mystery. And it wouldn’t require shooting. It’s the universe and environment that can still be exciting, even without action. So that’s one of the things I’d love to see us invest more in."
It's a strange thing to consider the possibility of a Halo game without shooting but O'Connor's example is an interesting one. Whether or not 343 Industries could pull it off is another question, TheChineseRoom or Fullbright may be ideally suited to tackling such a proposition should it ever happen.
The latest entry in the series, Halo 5: Guardians, which released earlier this week, has plenty of guns as you'd expect.
