Veterans of Destiny will remember how the weekly Nightfall Strike used to kick the entire party back into orbit upon a wipe. Previously, completing Nightfall for the week also provided the player with a buff that most hardcore players found necessary to keep on for the duration of the week to gain a boost to their reputation gain. Both of these elements of Nightfall have since been changed in The Taken King.
What hasn't changed much with Nightfall is how difficult it is. And for the level of challenge it offers, it's hardly ever rewarding. The most you can get out of it is an Exotic Engram or 10 Strange Coins. If you've already gotten the Calcified Fragment out of it, then there's very little incentive to doing it every week.
Bungie's Luke Smith says his team recognizes the problems with Nightfall, in that the rewards are underwhelming, and plan to fix it.
"Nightfall Rewards can be underwhelming," he wrote on Twitter. "Runes/low # of coins/no reputation burst/weak legendaries all feel like losing. We're gonna fix it"
The statement was well received by the fans, who appreciated the developer's acknowledgement of the issue. We'll have to see how they fix it in the coming weeks.
