To say that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was a success would honestly be selling it short by a large margin. Because in point of fact, not only did it do better than the original film, it’s the highest-grossing video game movie of all time now. What’s more, it’s been so successful that they’ve already announced a third movie AND a Knuckles spinoff for Paramount+. Speaking of the streaming service, we have some news on that too. Because today they announced that you can watch the movie on Paramount+…tomorrow!
Yep, how’s that for a surprise? It should also be noted that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be available to purchase digitally tomorrow with a physical 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 9th. In terms of that non-streaming release, if you get that you’ll be able to watch over an hour of extras, AND, there is apparently going to be a special animated short just for the purchased release called “Sonic Drone Home”. So that’s something to look forward to as well.
As noted, the movie did incredibly well at the box office, and they have even setup what Sonic The Hedgehog 3 could be about, as in the end credits sequence (Spoilers ahead!!!) they showcased that they found the base that contains none other than…Shadow the Hedgehog.
Obviously, this opens up a LOT of storylines for all the characters involved, not the least of which is Shadow, and how he might interact with Sonic. As well as Dr. Robotnik (as his grandfather made Shadow) and how he might try and manipulate him as he did Knuckles.
There are a lot of things up in the air right now, but with that and the Knuckles spinoff, plus the upcoming Sonic Prime and Sonic Frontiers, Sonic fans overall have a LOT to look forward to.
