Swedish studio Systemic Reaction has dropped a bit of a surprise treat for players of Generation Zero today. In a brand new trailer posted on the team’s YouTube channel, its open-world first-person shooter Generation Zero is getting an update. Base Assault is the title of the new content, which is showcased fully in the announcement trailer below.
Base Assault will be a free update for the main game and according to the trailer, will include a range of new base assault missions, side missions and more. In the new clip, we’re shown how the machines of FNIX have been steadily learning, growing stronger and have clearly decided to take on the Resistance by setting up their own heavily fortified base camps. It’s also shown in the update video that enemy bases are expanding across the game map, which will presumably set players up nicely for some base assault missions to prevent the machines from spreading their network even further.
While online reaction to the trailer has been mostly positive, some users on YouTube and indeed on the Generation Zero forums have questioned whether or not this announcement could be an elaborate April Fool’s joke, given the date and the somewhat out of the blue nature of the trailer dropping. That’s what this date does to everyone, so it’s understandable why players are taking any and all game-based announcements with a pinch of salt today. It does seem to be a legitimate update announcement so far though, with the combat and wider gameplay shown in the video looking pretty exciting.
Thankfully, the developers have just confirmed that today’s new update announcement is real over on Twitter, which means Generation Zero players will have a new chunk of content to get their hands on when it launches on all platforms very soon.
Generation Zero is currently available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One and PC.
