This week's Tokyo Game Show has brought us the first details and screenshots of Project Draco, a downloadable Kinect game being touted as a spiritual successor to the Panzer Dragoon franchise.
Announced at last year’s Tokyo Game Show, the game has been in production for almost a year, with Panzer Dragoon co-creator Yukio Futatsugi at the helm.
The game apparently plays like a cross between the Dragoon games and Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s Child of Eden. As in Child of Eden, you'll use your right hand to lock onto enemies, with left-handed and two-handed gestures summoning more powerful attacks. You steer your dragon by leaning from side to side or back to front, in a way that’s designed to simulate being at the reigns of a real dragon.
Out of combat, you'll be able to interact with your dragon like a sort of virtual pet, feeding it and customizing its abilities. Looks like someone finally saw my outraged letter about the lack of dragons in Kinectimals.
As you can see from the just released screenshots, the game is downright gorgeous, especially for a downloadable title. We’re sure to see and hear more about the game in the months leading up to its XBLA release early next year.
