The Dwarvessounds like the kind of story you’d tell to imaginative little kids, and speaking objectively, it does have the makings of an epic bedtime story. This game is based on the novel of the same name, written by German author Markus Heitz.
Players will take on the role of Tungdil, a dwarf who gathers up to a dozen companions on his adventures around Girdlegard, a map that contains numerous battlefields and lands waiting to be discovered. Prior to battles, the player must choose four heroes to bring into the fray; enemies will come at your band of heroes in swarms, surely you can take on them all, never mind that you’re outnumbered.
They’ve actually got Heitz onboard as a consultant, and since the game will be offering new quests and characters, there’s also a possibility that Heitz will pitch in and write a quest or two just for the game. The Dwarves will come pre-packaged with a great story, and it’s up to you to make it your own.
If The Dwarves has piqued your curiosity, and you can make it to Gamescom 2015, why not say hi to the King Art Games team? They’ll be showcasing the game from Thursday to Sunday at the Eurovideo/Nordic Games booth (booth A60, Hall 10.1). Author Markus Heitz will be in attendance on Thursday, too.
After showing everyone what they’ve got so far, King Art has expressed their intention to start a Kickstarter campaign for The Dwarves. They hope to truly involve supporters in the development of the game. There's no set release date for it yet, but it appears that they're aiming for a 2016 release.
