Stardock, maker of strategy games like the Galactic Civilizations series, has just released Sorcerer King, a new fantasy 4X game for the PC.
Sorcerer King is a fantasy turn-based strategy title in the vein of 4X games like the classic Master of Magic. In the game, players must build a kingdom and raise a force powerful enough to challenge the eponymous Sorcerer King. It’s a game where the bad guy has already won and it’s up to the remnants and survivors of his onslaught to set things right. You have to do so before he fulfills his plan of becoming a god and destroys the Elemental Shards upon which the world’s magic depends on.
“”With Sorcerer King we wanted to do a different take on 4X fantasy and move away from some of the genreÂ’s familiar tropes,”” said lead designer and Stardock CEO Brad Wardell. ““Instead of pitting players against other factions with the same objective of conquering the gameÂ’s world for themselves, weÂ’re challenging players to struggle against the Doomsday Counter as they rise from the ashes of defeat to stop the demigod from casting a spell that will transform him into a god.””
Players can take on the roles of six unique sovereign leaders, each with their own skill trees, spellbooks and armies. The world itself is filled with quests for players to complete, granting them crafting components, lore for researching new spells, new units, artirfacts, and changes to the Doomsday Counter. Players will also encounter rivals that they can choose to make into allies or enemies.
You can grab the game for $39.99 on Steam.
