Elden Ring: How To Change Your Appearance Anytime In-Game

February 23, 2022 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Stylin’ Ring.

Fashion Souls still thrives in Elden Ring. You can make your character look as cool (or lame) as you want in character creation, and you won’t be stuck with your creation forever. There are two ways we’ve found so far that allow you to totally revamp your starting character customization free of charge. No need to visit the barber vendor for new hairstyle. You can swap anything you want and even change your in-game name. The only thing you can’t change is your gender. We’ll see if there’s an alternate way. Dark Souls 2 infamously included a strange coffin you could crawl inside at the start of the game to swap genders. Maybe Elden Ring has a similar secret just waiting to be found.

How To Customize Your Character | Changing Your Customization After Creation

To customize your character — changing hair style, facial features, colors, and in-game name — you’ll need to find customization services. There are two we’ve discovered. One is very early in the game, and one is a little further in.

  • The Mirror located in the Roundtable Hold allows you to customize your character. The mirror is found in the large bedroom where the Deathbed Companion resides. Interact with the mirror and you’ll re-enter the customization menu.
  • Alternatively, you can talk to Queen Rennala in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. She only becomes available after the Shardbearer boss fight in the Academy — the Academy is the large structure to the northwest of Stormveil Castle.

Queen Rennala has another surprise for you. She can also reset all your stats for a respec — but you’ll need a very specific item to sacrifice. With Queen Rennala you can respec and immediately change up your character’s look through her menu. Become an all-new you. Even if you don’t want to swap around your runes for new stats, you can customize yourself at any time in the Roundtable Hold. That’s a pretty nice feature, even if the game doesn’t signpost the mirror at all. You can very easily walk past it — and the Deathbed Companion only becomes important later in the game. She knows more than she lets on.
