Previews for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain had grown scarce in light of the rumors between a fallout between Konami and Hideo Kojima. The reaction reached to a point that many fans indicated they would not be buying the game anymore to express their disapproval of Konami.
Since then, Konami had released statements affirming they intend to keep working with Kojima and to make more Metal Gear Solid games. In spite of this, Konami’s reputation had taken a hit, and they may not recover from it for a while.
Now, fans may not realize this, but this fan reaction placed Kojima and his dev team in an awkward position. They are still working with Konami to finish and release the game, and the last thing they need is an awkward boycott on their hard work. The game definitely needed to get hyped up again, in a way that would wipe the slate clean. All things considered, this seems as good a way to do it as any.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain actually joins Platinum Games, who will be revealing an as-yet unannounced game, on YouTube’s E3 stream (prior to the previously mentioned gameplay reveal from IGN). YouTube has also confirmed they will have Tony Hawk, Robert Kirkman, and Telltale Games, presumably to promote their upcoming projects.
