According to Johan Andersson, Rendering Architect at DICE, and better known as repi on Twitter, Battlefield 3 will be running at a resolution of 1280×704 on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. In contrast, Call of Duty: Black Ops ran at a much lower resolution of 1040×608.
He explained that having a few lines less than 720p allows the developers to keep the game running smoothly while saving quite a bit of memory for the game to perform other tasks.
It goes without saying that even though the game will look top notch on the console, it will certainly pale in comparison to its visuals on the PC, which can have a resolution as high as 2560×1440—ideal for anyone running a 27" monitor. This, in addition to the increased 64-player limit on the PC will certainly make the PC version that much more appealing for fans of the genre… and pretty much everyone else.
