Top 10 Cities: Skyline User-Made Modifications

March 20, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

Enhance your city with these 10 amazing user-made mods for Cities: Skylines.

The highly anticipated Cities: Skylines is out, and it's everything we've ever wanted from SimCity—a game that unfortunately for everyone who purchased it a few years ago failed to deliver on its promise of being a good city-building simulation. But enough of that—this is about Cities: Skylines.

As anyone who's played the game can attest, Cities: Skylines offers players the ability to construct gigantic cities unrestrained by small land plots, and extensive modding capabilities.

In this article, we take a look at ten fantastic mods for Cities: Skylines that you'll want to install and try out. Read on.

Walking at Street Level
Link

Does anyone else remember Streets of Sim City or Sim Copter, where you could go down tot he street level and say hello to your world face to face? Well you can do the same in Cities: Skylines, thanks to the Walking at Street Level mod. The mod lets you go down and see the crowds and explore your city like a citizen would. How cool!

Timboh's Marvelous Interchange Emporium
Link

Timboh really likes to build interchanges. He's built some great interchanges, very similar to designs seen in real life. They'll enhance your roadways and let you build better highways in the world.

HideUI
Link

If you've ever wanted to experience your city without the UI, the HideUI mod will make it so you can bask in your city's glory without the overlay.

Traffic Report Tool
Link

If Cities: Skylines got one negative review point, it was likely for its traffic woes. Much like real life, traffic in the game simply isn't enjoyable.  The Traffic Report Tool (Beta) mod helps improve that, giving you the ability to see how your traffic is doing and troubleshoot its problem. It will let you know the pathing of a vehicle, showing what the hold up is–in turn showing you exactly how to fix it.

All Spaces Unlockable
Link

Bigger is better. At least that's what gamers seem to th ink after being constrained to small cityscapes in SimCity. Perhaps the most essential and simple mod in this list, All Spaces Unlockable lets you build everywhere and anywhere, allowing you to create huge metropolises.

DP's Low Density Residential Beautification Set
Link

User DPruett wanted more residential building options. And so he made them. His mod package offers several new houses for low density residential areas, giving the terrain more variety and helping make your city look more diverse and, in his words, "beautiful."

Slow Citizen Aging
Link

The average citizen in Cities: Skylines lives for about six years. If you ask us, that's a bit too fast–the Slow Citizen Aging mod slows it down to a quarter of its pace. This slows down the city's pace in general, creating a more relaxed game mode that's a bit more realistic as well.

Los Santos from GTA V
Link

The Grand Theft Auto series is renouned for their takes on real life locales. Los Santos in GTA V isn't any exception–and now you can experience it in Cities: Skylines!

Gula's Down-and-Out Burger
Link

When Steam user Gula fell victim to the recent closing of Maxis' Emeryville studios, he decided to keep doing what he was doing professionally in SimCity for Cities: Skylines as a modder. His recent commercial lot, a parody of an In-and-Out Burger appropriately dubbed Down-N-Out Burger, is a highly detailed tribute to the real life institution. Hey, do you think they serve animal style burgers there too?

Gula's StarTrust Office
Link

As we mentioned before, Gula is an ex-Maxis employee making mods for Cities: Skylines. His very latest invention? A tribute to the SunTrust building from Tampa Florida. Iconic and tall, it'll certainly stand out in your city's skyline.
