If you’ve preordered From Dust on Steam, you’ll be disappointed to know that the game requires you to verify your internet connection thanks to its DRM. Despite the fact that an Ubisoft representative “clarified” weeks ago that the game would only require a one-time activation, it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
The PC port of From Dust is capped to a low 30 frames per second, which is less than half of what most gamers have come to expect from a PC title, making From Dust one of the worst ports in recent history. The game is also limited to a few very low resolutions in windowed mode and comes with a host of bugs.
The game’s lack of anti-aliasing also makes it look like a jagged, six year old game. For a game that should look like the second coming of Populous, it certainly a disappointment.
Despite reports elsewhere, it may not be possible for you to receive a refund for the game directly from Steam. Ubisoft suggests that you contact their support team directly if you’d like to get your money back.
All in all, a bummer for what should've been a much better game. I'll be following up with an actual take on the game once the installation completes.
