There have been a few rumors about the next Call of Duty already coming out, but here’s one you may not have seen coming. It seems likely that a future installment of the game is certain to have a female lead.
This comes from a HipHopGamer interviewer with Sledgehammer Games COO Michael Condrey. Here are Condrey’s full comments on the matter:
Absolutely. After speaking with military advisors, strong female characters, strong female military presences are gonna be in the future, and we’re seeing it today. So, absolutely you would expect to see that one day in Call of Duty.
Of course, Sledgehammer Games just worked on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, a title which necessitated they research the reality of military service. So, Condrey and other members of Sledgehammer know firsthand that many women have entered the field, since the Pentagon lifted the Combat Exclusion Policy within 2013 to 2014. It simply stands to reason that Activision would want their games to reflect the reality of the battlefield, warts and all.
This also comes in line with Activision’s current policy regarding women in the Call of Duty series, as they added playable female shooters in Call of Duty Ghosts. Condrey himself spoke out against the misogynism and toxicity being associated with gamer culture, even claiming that the COD community had a low tolerance for it last November.
