According to 2K, the next Borderlands title will be developed specifically for next-gen consoles with no intention of releasing the game on either the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3. Following the announcement of healthy results for Take-Two's fiscal third quarter, 2K President Karl Slatoff confirmed that the new Borderlands would be built from the ground up on next-gen systems,
“For example, we can confirm that 2K and Gearbox Software will develop an all-new Borderlands game built specifically for next-gen consoles.”
Additionally, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford tweeted that he was looking for new members to join the team working on the next iteration of Borderlands, boldly referring to the upcoming title as "the big one".
We are recruiting for next Borderlands. This is the big one. Industry badass? E-mail me: [email protected] pic.twitter.com/ZG9dLytX1B

There has been no tentative release window for the game, though it is currently – it can be assumed – in the early stages of development. While it is certainly good news to hear that a new Borderlands is on the way, fans of the franchise playing on sixth generation consoles will find themselves disappointed.
