Blackrock Foundry Raid Goes Live Tomorrow On WoW, Patch 6.1 Live On PTR

February 2, 2015 by John Walton

Blackrock and roll.

Starting tomorrow, Blizzard will be launching the next raid in World of Warcraft – known as Blackrock Foundry. The new raid instance will be on both Normal and Heroic difficulties – with Mythic and Raid Finder launching in subsequent weeks.

Following the defeat of Imperator Mar'gok in the first raid of the expansion, Highmaul, adventurers in the savage world of Draenor will now find themselves tackling the burning core of the Iron Horde itself with an assault on Blackrock Foundry. The new raid will yield an abundance of loot, including tokens for the Tier 17 armour sets as well as setting the stage for the next part of the legendary ring questline – where players work with Archmage Khadgar to assemble a unique ring for their character.

Blackrock Foundry, or BRF, will not be the only raid opportunity to launch with tomorrow's update to the game. In addition to storming the heart of the Iron Horde, raiders will also have the chance to tackle a new world boss in the form of Rukhmar – an avian sun goddess that will circle the skies above the Spires of Arak.

The opening of the raid as well as the inclusion of a new world boss will be the last raid encounters of the current tier, before the launch of the next major content update.

Patch 6.1 is an upcoming addition that is currently active on the WoW Public Test Server, and will add a host of new features including the widely awaited model update to the blood elf race, a new daily area revolving around the Iron Docks, the inclusion of a new collections tab permitting easier access to heirloom gear and Twitter integration which will enable players to take screenshots of their achievements and accomplishments and upload them directly to their own Twitter feed.

As well as the more prominent changes, Patch 6.1 will also add a variety of other changes – most notably to "garrisons", a central feature to the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Such changes include new missions and followers for your garrison, the ability to summon a raid boss within the very walls of your garrison and even the option to add a jukebox to play music compositions from various locales within the world of Azeroth.

For a full schedule on the launch window of the new content, the release dates for each corresponding difficulty have been posted on on Battle.net, along with patch notes outlining further more specific detail regarding Patch 6.1.
