Nosgoth, the third world shooter based on the Legacy of Kain universe, is entering open beta today.
This marks the first game in the franchise in over a decade, sinceLegacy of Kain: Defiance, released in 2003 for Windows, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. Still, Nosgoth represents a dramatic change to the original Legacy of Kain formula, from strong single player story-based action adventure campaigns to multiplayer online shooter.
The game is still billed as an action adventure, but it is clear that this game hews closer to Titanfall or perhaps,Forge, than, say, World of Warcraft.
The game pits vampires against humans, and has two modes; Deathmatch and Flashpoint. Deathmatch is simple, with the team that earns the highest kill count being the winner. Flashpoint is like Domination mode in other shooters. Humans protect certain checkpoints and vampires have to take a certain number of them out. While humans get to go around with a variety of weapons, vampires use their unnatural abilities instead, including flying, melee attacks, grabbing targets, etc.
Square Enix is making the Nosgoth open beta completely open to everyone. You need only revisit their site and register your Steam account there. Once you log onto Steam, the Nosgoth local files will start downloading.
Log on to the first week to get double XP, from launch until January 28, 3 AM EST. Square Enix also has a few microtransaction packs ready at launch.
