Sega and Creative Assembly may be bringing the Total War franchise into a fantasy setting with an as yet unannounced game, called Total War: Warhammer.
The title was unwittingly leaked in the coffeetable book The Art of Total War, which is itself a showcase of the art of the Total War games. Few other details were shared, but the title was mentioned in the same sentence as mobile game Total War: Kingdom, which we know today better as Total War Battles: Kingdom, as well as Total War: Arena, a free to play strategy game. Both of these games are currently in closed beta.
While it’s not clear why Sega and Creative Assembly have not confirmed its existence yet, it could mean one of two things: either the game has been cancelled, or it may still need some more time in development before it is to be announced. Either way, it seems that it was mentioned in the book because Sega expected that they were going to be ready to announce it by the time it reached brick and mortar.
Both Total War Battles: Kingdom and Total War: Arena are spin-offs of theTotal War IP, which adapt the franchise’s main formula to hybridize it with other genres. So, will Total War: Warhammer will also be a deviation, or the first game in the main series with a wholly original scenario? What would you like to see in this game?
