Destiny has had a huge amount of controversy surrounding it. While I think it's unfair to judge Destiny as it currently stands, the announcement of Destiny 2 has me a little worried that Bungie and Activision won't be putting everything they can into making the series' first iteration all it can be. Part me sympathizes with Activision, knowing that they want to get the most out of their ten year publishing deal with Bungie. Time moves very quickly in the games industry, and you can only develop a handful of games in ten years.
In a new Destiny developer diary posted to GameInformer, it's been revealed that Bungie plans to bring swords into the mix. If you haven't played Destiny yet, there's a certain mission on the Moon that allows you to wield a sword of great power. Word on the street is that the more integrated melee weaponry will operate in the same capacity. However, we're not sure if these weapons will feature a one-hit kill like the sword featured in this mission.
Regardless of these new weapons and their respective power levels, I am very excited to see the introduction of swords into the overarching Destiny experience. It should add an entirely different element to both mission and PvP-oriented gameplay.
The video also details some new PvP maps, The Dark Below's new raid, and how Bungie has been responding to fan feedback. The fact that Bungie has taken notice of the problems plaguing Destiny is of some comfort, considering the number of issues that have been popping up since the game's release back in September.
