Tomorrow marks the release of Dragon Age: Inquisition in North America, with other regions scheduled for Thursday. One region that won't be getting the latest in BioWare's medieval RPG series is India, as publisher Electronic Arts has decided at the last minute not to launch in that territory.
The reason? There is a key male character with whom you can only have a romantic and sexual relationship with if the player character is also male. EA feared that this may breach India's stringent content laws regarding and has decided to halt the planned release. All customers who had pre-ordered the game will of course be fully refunded.
It's disheartening that there are still places on Earth where even a fictional representation of non-hetero characters is seen as a taboo. However, EA must have known that such content was in the game for a long while, so why wait until the eve of release to do anything about it? Seems unfair to Indian gamers.
Dragon Age: Inquisition will launch here tomorrow for Windows, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
