Level-5's answer to the Pokemon phenomenon continues to perform spectacularly in its home country. According to 4Gamer as interpreted by NeoGAF, Yo-Kai Watch 2 has shipped 3 million units across both retail and digital in Japan. The physical game broke through 2.8 millon as of last week (according to the tracker Media Create), and sales are not slowing down. Yo-Kai Watch 2 is split across two versions subtitled "Ganzo" and "Hanko," with a third called "Shin'uchi" arriving in December, which will obviously rake in even more sales.
All this bodes extremely well for next year's North American series debut. Level-5 had avoided bringing Yo-Kai Watch over sooner because its strong Japanese cultural and mythological connections would be hard to convey to American kids. But with sales like these, Level-5 would be foolish not to give it a shot. This is the first franchise to seriously challenge Pokemon's popularity at its own game, after all.
Stay tuned for more updates regarding Yo-Kai Watch's Western arrival.
