Sunset Overdrive may be coming to Windows, as implied in some recent advertising.
This is a detail from an online popup ad for the game, that a fan found while going through a local nongaming website. As of right now the ad is still online and active. If you prefer to see the ad, you can still do so here.
While fans commiserate over the revelation, some bring up some good points. The main reason people are talking about it is that the game was announced as an Xbox exclusive. Not a Microsoft exclusive, and Xbox exclusive. Depending on who you talk to, this is either a bad decision on Microsoft’s part, a shrewd decision to come down the line, and a good one to benefit gamers with PCs but no Xbox Ones. Fans do think that this will release to PC via the native Windows App Store instead of Steam, as Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3.
Just last month, Microsoft revealed that they are working on streaming Xbox games on Windows. They claimed then that not only Xbox 360 games, but Xbox One games will be available to stream.
There is a possibility that when the ad refers to Sunset Overdrive coming to PC, they may be referring to this service, instead of a native port. Other fans point out that the ad may have been intended to be released later, and this would tie in with this theory, since Xbox streaming definitely will not be available yet by the game’s release. If this was what Microsoft meant, they are likely to officially confirm such plans soon.
Sunset Overdrive was announced for release on Xbox One for October 28.
