Rime Has No Combat, Is More About Exploration

October 21, 2014 by Tony Ponce

New details emerge concerining the awe-inspiring PS4 advenure.

European site Gamereactor just posted an interview with Tequila Works' Raúl Rubio concerning the studio's beautiful PS4 title, Rime. He discussed some of the game's influences and mechanics, including the reaffiramtion that there will be no combat:

There is no combat in Rime, but you still get this sensation of not being an invincible hero. You want to go beyond and progress, but you're conscious that it's not going to be an easy path.

The game's environment is inspired by the classic '60s film Jason and the Argonauts and the shores of the Mediterranean, which reflects the team's Spanish roots. Also, the tower that you frequently see in game trailers is but the beginning of the adventure, which places heavy focus on self-discovery and the challenges and dangers that come about during that.

Though there's no combat, there will be certain platforming mechanics, inspired in part by Jak & Daxter. One of Rime's biggest inspirations, however, is the puzzle game The Room by Fireproof Studios. The Room's creator, Barry Meade, has even had light input on Rime's development.

Rime still lacks a release date, though it should arrive on PS4 next year.
