One year ago, Capcom dropped hints about the production of their next Resident Evil game, promising a return to survival horror. However, it turns out they were not referring to Resident Evil 7. Capcom’s promises are tied to Resident Evil Revelations 2.
Claire Redfield takes center stage in Resident Evil Revelations 2. She is a seasoned veteran in Resident Evil Revelations 2, and she partners with Barry Burton’s daughter, Moira. The story campaign can be played either single player or co-op. Claire will be the tough in this duo, doing most of the fighting, while Moira acts as support, giving out the herbs and holding the flashlight. Claire’s death leads to a game over, so Moira’s role will be to ensure Claire stays alive.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 is set between Resident Evil 5 andResident Evil 6. Claire and Moira are damseled and wake up in an abandoned island detention facility.
A lot of the things Capcom alluded to a year ago were brought to light. Capcom devs talked about zombies being played out, and in Resident Evil Revelations 2, Claire and Moira will face a new enemy, the Afflicted.
The Afflicted look like zombies at first, but are completely different. They are fast and strike hard, so players will often think twice before taking them head on. They can opt to run away, or use stealth to take them down.
Capcom also alluded to inspiration from games like The Last of Us and Tomb Raider. Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be a combination of new ideas, as well as stuff from older Resident Evil games. If this seems like a contradiction in statements, it is. It remains to be seen if Capcom really will be able to deliver on their promise.
Resident Evil Revelations 2 will be released on 2015 to Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. You can see new images of the game below.
