Pokemon Company have revealed on livestream that they are making a new game with Bamdai Namco’s Tekken development team, a 3D fighting game called Pokken Tournament.
Pokken Tournament was announced in an exclusive Nico Nico stream. Tekken team head Katsuhiro Harada was on hand for the announcement, as well as Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara.
For now, details are sparse, but we do know that the game is coming to arcades in 2015. They also showed footage of Lucario facing Machamp. They appeared in a full 3D stage, and moved more like they were Tekken characters than Pokemon.
Pokemon Company took pains not to bring up Nintendo or their consoles, but the trailer showed Nintendo’s copyright, which they filed earlier in the US and Europe. The official Pokemon account has since shared a teaser trailer for Pokken Tournament for international audiences. You can see that the game is in early stages of development, but the concept is plain and easy to understand.
Some fans also pointed out that Ishihara’s wording revealed Pokken would come to arcades first, implying that it could come to consoles at a later date.
