Excited for Nintendo's amiibos, set to arrive on store shelves later this year? Yeah, me too! Odd as it may seem, Nintendo hasn't been in the habit of releasing figurines of its illustrious icons — at least, not many that weren't relatively pricey models intended for hobby collectors. The situation has turned around somewhat in the last few years as, with brands like K'NEX jumping on the Mario wagon. Still, we want more!
Jakks Pacific has been producing a line of "World of Nintendo" figurines, some of which have already found their way into toy stores. Included in first series are 4-inch versions of Mario, Link, Yoshi, and Wario, as well as 6-inch versions of Bowser and Donkey Kong, all with 9 points of articulation for various action poses. Link seems like the oddball, but I take his inclusion to mean that Jakks is branching outside the Mario brand and may touch other popular Nintendo properties.
These are more inexpensive toy options (no prices are currently listed), so don't expect the kind of detail found in, say, a figma or Figuarts. Still, if you appreciate what Jakks is doing here, you might also be interested in some of their other Nintendo products. Check out that ridiculous ride-on Mario Kart!
