Square Enix is pursuing a lawsuit against 15 Italian hackers who allegedly downloaded and leaked a preview build of Deus Ex: Human Revolution several weeks ago. The company seeks to nail them in excess of $5000 in damages.
Square Enix Limited v. Does 1-15 was filed in the state of Washington on June 22, and focuses on the ten-hour demo leaked onto the web and bittorrent. The preview was originally made available to members of the press.
The lawsuit states that the Italian gaming magazine GMC placed the preview build onto a protected website which was allegedly broken into and leaked onto the web. GMC claims no knowledge of the breach.
It is rather ironic that such a thing should happen to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a game centered around hacking and cyberspace.
