We have a new batch of details for The Sims 4, so let’s just dive in.
Bills are a significant element in this new game, in a way that it wasn’t before. Let the bills pass by unpaid and you’ll find your power, and then your water cut off. Your Sims will have unique reactions to this, so you might actually want to try it once. Also, if you’re now in expensive homes, upkeep will be significantly harder, so it might be easier to make this happen in that situation.
Attics are coming back, and they will work well with the new roofs. You can place windows and doors on the roofdrop walls, and you can add as many usable objects under the roof as you want, as long as there’s room.
Careers go back to Sims 2 conventions, where the Sims leave home for the day and go back home after the shift’s done. Careers have a progression system now, allowing you to earn rewards to add into your home to reflect said career. Of course, if your Sim paints, wouldn’t it make sense for him or her to have a studio at home?
Sims use new Away Actions, to use when they’re away from home. Some examples of Away Actions are socializing with other Sims, building up skills, sleeping, meeting their Needs (an actual in-game mechanic), etc. Careers have their own set of work-relevant Away Actions as well.
8 Sims per household.
The skill referred to as Correct is gone, but the WooHoo mechanic is still very much a thing.
Maxis did not plan for Sims to be left or right-handed. The hand that they use will depend on the contextual animation.
Lastly, I don’t know why anyone had to ask, but no, The Sims 4 isn’t full-out Tomodachi Life crazy. You can choose to give your Sims ordinary lives if you want to.
The Sims 4 is coming to Windows on September 2, and Mac on an unannounced date.
