Square Enix is no stranger to milking a popular franchise, with Final Fantasy bearing the brunt of most of these efforts—some of which have proven to be worse than others.
The company intends to release a new Final Fantasy-themed rhythm game by the name of "Theatrhythm" for the Nintendo 3DS, which is described as having "theater rhythm action" in place of gameplay. The game is set to offer chibi-styled (or super deformed) anime characters and retro Final Fantasy style RPG elements.
Unlike turn-based battles, all combat will be played out using the game's rhythm system allowing players to touch parts of the screen that correspond to the game's music, because the type of game everyone wants to play the most is a Guitar Hero game for the 3DS. Sarcasm aside, the gameplay is expected to be very much in the same vein as Elite Beat Agents, but with an RPG backdrop.
We look forward to listening to those cheery beats and tapping our stylus to the melody of the Final Fantasy Victory Music.
