If this image is to be believed, a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Collection is slated for release this November 25, for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The image promises remastered campaigns, with new textures, lighting, and audio effects for next generation consoles. The collection will run at 1080p, at a constant 60 FPS, and there will be exclusive content to connect it to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare multiplayer. The image also lists Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games as the developers.
To put this rumor in context, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is scheduled for release November 4, a full three weeks before. The three Modern Warfare games are readily available on Windows, PS3, and Xbox 360. If you were thinking about the GameSpy server shutdown, Activision already clarified they were unaffected by it so the older games are playable just fine as well.
The given date also placesModern Warfare Collection’s release mere days before the crucial Black Friday weekend, which falls on November 28 this year.
We’re not quite sure to call fraud on this one just yet. Unfortunately, remakes have become so common on 8th generation consoles (even the Wii U) that this is not entirely unlikely.
Activision does not really have a reason to rerelease theModern Warfare games. Not only are the games readily available and the servers up, but interest is down in lieu of newer games, including newer Call of Duty games. Maybe Activision just wants to keep the Modern Warfare name relevant. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest in Call of Duty news as it happens.
