We have new information relating to the upcoming Deus Ex, which seems slated for Playstation 4, Xbox One and Steam.
A job listing popped up for what is tentatively named Deus Ex: Universe. They are needing an online programmer with prior experience in the industry, and knowledge of the PSN, XBL, and Steam APIs. They also need someone familiar with Square Enix Online Suite, and work in multiplayer games is a bonus.
Up front, Square Enix explained that the new hire will work with the design team to implement online game features. This will include building tools to run games lives, as well as work with different platforms.
So, everything points to the next Deus Ex bringing that open ended world online and multiplayer, very much like GTA Online / Watch Dogs / Square Enix’s own Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. Of course, it will also take away Deus Ex’s unique elements and essentially have it following trends. Given the emphasis on online features, it's also more likely the game is coming to PS4 and Xbox One than PS3 and Xbox 360, but then, you never know.
Is this something that you would want to see out of Deus Ex? Or do you prefer that it retains its strong narrative? How about if this was more a spinoff than the next step for the main series? We think it will be very popular, but whether it’s good for the franchise for the whole might be a different thing entirely. Share with us what you think in the comments below. We’ll let you know when more information surfaces.
