Gearbox has announced its plans to remake the Homeworld and Homeworld 2 games, revamping them in HD and releasing them as the Homeworld Collection.
"Previously, we'd been referring to this effort as Homeworld HD but as work progressed it became clear that title didn't properly communicate the scope of the work," wrote Chris Faylor, interactive marketing manager at Gearbox Software. "This is more than a simple re-release or up-res — given the input we've received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged remastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions."
The HD version of the games will include high resolution textures, 3D model upgrades, new post-production effects, HD cutscenes recreated by the original Homeworld teams, and a remastered soundtrack with new music. In addition, the games will support user-created mods, Steamworks integration with online multiplayer matchmaking and Steam Achievements.
Not bad for a remake.
