Activision has officially revealed their latest Transformers game with Hasbro, Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark. The game comes to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of Transformers.
Interestingly, the game is a crossover of sorts, between the Michael Bay-produced Transformers live-action film universe, and Activision’s own Cybertron video game universe, as established by High Moon Studios’ Transformers: War of Cybertron and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.
The gameplay will mostly be based on High Moon Studios’ Cybertron series. Expect the same fast paced run and gun action integrated with open area vehicular action, for the same flashy, large scale conflicts.
The single player story will allow you to switch between Earth and Cybertron, as well as Autobots and Decepticons. Multiplayer will include the popular online four player mode, Escalation. Along with it comes a new defense system and a wider range of characters, including more enemies and playable characters from Transformers lore. Leveling up will also be integrated with game progression, across single player and online multiplayer, to the degree that earning experience unlocks characters, weapons, abilities, etc.
The game is coming to Xbox One, Wii U, Playstation 4, PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, and will be developed by Edge of Reality, most recently known for the Mass Effect Trilogy on PS3, as well as upcoming free to play shooter Loadout. Interestingly enough, Nintendo’s 3DS is getting a unique version, as it will be a strategy RPG, to be developed by Wayforward Technologies.
