There’s a potential new Mafia-related video game news coming out in the near future. After having three mainline installments available right now, there are some big rumors starting to turn up online after the official Mafia Twitter account became active online. After years of being silent, a single new tweet has fans wondering what this means for the franchise such as a potential new installment being in the works. Of course, nothing is confirmed at the moment.
Mafia got its start back in 2002 and since then there have been two additional installments with their own DLC and extra content for players to enjoy post-launch. However, in terms of mainline video games, the last installment released into the market was back in 2016 with Mafia 3, a game that was developed by Hangar 13 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. Now the new tweet that came out from the official Twitter account for Mafia doesn’t offer anything to go off on. Instead, it tweeted out one simple word which was family.
Fans are now speculating what this could mean. There is some hope that perhaps a fourth mainline installment is being developed, potentially catered towards a release for the next-generation video game console platforms. However, there were leaks in the past that there were remastered editions being worked on for Mafia 2 and Mafia 3, which would be a bit unusual to see a game remastered and released for the same current-generation platforms that the title already released on.
These leaks come from a Korea and Taiwan rating board so nothing official has been confirmed yet by 2K. If these games are being put out once again, it’s possible that they are being remastered for the next-generation Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. For now, all we can do is wait and see if there is any new official news regarding this franchise in the coming weeks.
