MCV reports that sales of the Nintendo 3DS have now reached two million in the UK.
That figure includes sales of the original 3DS, 3DS XL, and the recently released 2DS budget model but falls short of the sales achieved by the DS by this point in its life cycle.
Even so, Nintendo will likely be pleased with the progress of the 3DS which suggests that there is room in the smartphone dominated market for dedicated gaming handhelds. It also seems it will be a good few months going forward for handhelds in Japan with the PS Vita topping a magazine poll of gamers' most wanted followed by 3DS.
The 3DS has had impressive software releases this year including Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokémon X and Y, Fire Emblem: Awakening and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
During yesterday's Nintendo Direct event the company announced new details of Bravely Default on the 3DS.
