Cyberpunk 2077 Delay Explained By Developer

January 27, 2020 by Dennis Patrick

There’s no hidden agenda.

This year has been quite anticipated for several big video game titles. Unfortunately, a lot of those games were delayed and it’s left plenty of players rather bummed out. One of those video game titles that got the delay was CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. With it being pushed back there was plenty of speculation online on just what may have caused the delay in the first place. Now a developer at the studio has taken to the official developer forums to alert fans on what’s going on at the moment.

Seeing a game get delay is nothing out of the ordinary. We see plenty of video game titles get delayed and it came to be anywhere from a few more weeks, months to even a whole year. It really just depends on what’s going on at the studio and for Cyberpunk 2077, the delay pushed the game back a few months. When the news circulated online, Cory Barlog who is known for his work on the God of War franchise, made a few comments about delays. According to Cory Barlog, every game runs badly until you optimize the hardware in the final push before reaching the gold status of development.

When Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed, the announcement came that the entire game was complete and playable. Still, the studio wanted to further polish the game and work out any issues before its ready to be released into the market. Now a few days later we’re getting another comment on the matter from an official developer at the studio. Benzenzimmern wrote on the official CD Projekt Red forum and stated that Cory Barlog hit the nail on the head.

“Cory Barlog hit the nail on the head. Of course, we’re optimizing for the Xbox One, and for the Playstation, and for the PC, because that’s what you do in the last stretches of game development. While the game is made, lots of things are unoptimized, because they’re all in flux, changing, and still not finished.

So simple answers like “They delayed the game because of X” might make for a good rumor, but don’t hold a lot of truth. There are always many reasons. Among them, and I can speak for myself, simply fixing bugs, so the game is as polished as possible. No hidden agendas, just working on making the game better.”

Currently, Cyberpunk 2077 is still being optimized for the various platforms and with it will come to a slew of bugs to fix. There’s nothing hidden about the current status of the video game title. Instead, the studio is working to release the game into the market without a slew of problems running on the hardware platforms it’s launching on later this year. As for when you can pick up a copy of the game, Cyberpunk 2077 will be launching on September 20, 2020, for the PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia platforms.
