Review Roundup: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Manages to Tell an Immersive Story Paired With Excellent Gameplay

November 15, 2019 by Jordan Biazzo

Looks like Respawn managed to pull it off!

EA is notorious for ruining games with microtransactions and rushed productions, but I think they might have finally learned from their mistakes as it looks like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a success.

From the developers who brought us Titanfall 1/2, and Apex Legends, comes their next title, which is a single player story set in the Star wars universe. When we were told this game was going to happen and it was getting developed by Respawn, a lot of the gaming community was scratching their heads; why choose a development team who knows how to work multiplayer shooters to create a single player story game? Especially when they have a studio like BioWare under they’re belt.

But it seems that I, and anyone doubting Respawn, has been proven wrong. Not only did they manage to create a fantastic single player game filled with meaning, but they also managed to create an amazing Star Wars title. From early reviews critics are stating that the game is filled with super fun Souls-like combat, an immersive story, and a ton of great secrets that will have players grinning from ear to ear.

Down below are some of the most respectable gaming sites in the industry, check out the highlights for their reviews on EA’s latest single player title — Star wars Jedi: Fallen Order:

Easy Allies 90

Star Wars is a beloved series, and when a new game comes out, some particular hopes and expectations come with it. There are excellent games in the franchise, but it’s been a while since they’ve reached those heights. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has combat that feels tight and impactful, and exploring each of its imaginative worlds gives a great sense of discovery. It’s a fantastic title that stands as one of the best Star Wars games yet.

IGN 90

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order makes up for a lot of lost time with a fantastic single-player action-adventure that marks the return of the playable Jedi.

PlayStation LifeStyle 85

Without question, this is exactly the kickstart that Star Wars has been missing for far too long. There’s no need to consult Yoda, Fallen Order absolutely deserves to appear in your immediate future.

GameSpot 80

It’s true that Fallen Order borrows liberally from other action games, but those elements work together with Respawn’s combat and environment design, and a story that finds humanity in the Force and in its characters, to hone in on what makes the world of Star Wars worthy of revisiting again and again. Even with some rough edges, Fallen Order represents one of the most compelling game additions to the Star Wars franchise in years.

Eurogamer

When I reached the end of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, I didn’t feel like I’d had a rewarding experience. I was relieved it was over. With some side-meandering, it took around 30 hours, and I didn’t enjoy a lot of them. I’ll admit crunching a Souls-like in less than four days is an unnatural and gruelling experience: I imagine if I’d played Fallen Order over several months, I would have been less frustrated, but probably still bored. It’s such a shame, as Fallen Order has an incredible gameplay experience at its core, with fantastic environments and well-directed action sequences. Yet it’s unable to sustain this thanks to some fundamental design problems.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is now available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Are you planning on picking up the game this weekend? Let us know in the comments below!
