It’s hard to believe that we’re already gearing towards the next-generation platform releases. It’s been quite the ride with this generation full of exclusives and updates. With Sony and Microsoft looking to launch their next-generation console, it wouldn’t be too surprising if Sony is going to keep up with their trend of names. Going back to the original launch, Sony has been naming the PlayStation lineup with the succession of numbers.
We went from the Sony PlayStation to the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and now the upcoming launch of the PlayStation 5. While it wasn’t a big surprise to see Sony keep the trend with their names, Microsoft made the interesting choice to move away from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One. So far Microsoft is still not unveiling their name to the platform just yet other than its code name, Project Scarlett.
While we know right now that Sony is gearing up to the launch of the PlayStation 5, it likely did take a long meeting to decide on the name. In fact, it looks like Sony is keeping this naming trend going at least until the PlayStation 10. It’s been unveiled that Sony had filed trademarks for the PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9, and PS10.
We have a long wait before we even reach the PlayStation 10, but at least we know that Sony won’t likely through in any wrenches to the platform name like Microsoft. Really, the question we have on our minds is just what Microsoft plans on calling Project Scarlett officially when it launches into the market.
