Fortnite: Chapter 2 – How To Fish | Best Loot Spots, Fishing Rod Locations & More

October 16, 2019 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Become a fishing master with these tips and tricks for finding fishing rods and catching the best possible loot.

Fishing is a brand new activity in Fortnite: Chapter 2 — all you need is a fishing rod, which are pretty common. With these tools, you’ll be able to pull random loot from any water source, and there are way more water sources in the new island map.

There’s more to fishing than just tossing a rod. If you want to get the most out of your fishing experience, which literally only takes a few seconds, you’ll want to check out a few of these tips, pointers, and PSAs. We’ve been spending a lot of time around fishing rods, and now we’ve got enough info to share — this is how fishing works in Fortnite: Chapter 2.

How To Fish | Best Loot Spots, Fishing Rod Locations & More

Fishing is very simple in Fortnite: Chapter 2. You need a Fishing Rod, and once equipped, you can hold down fire to toss the bobber. Throw the bobber into water, then wait for a tug — quickly press fire again to pull in your random loot.

It’s a quick and easy way to farm for loot, even if you’re far away from any named location. It’s also risky — you need to stand (basically) still for a few seconds before you get a bite. That leaves you open to snipers.

Fishing is easy, but there are two tricks you need to know — where to find fishing rods, and where you want to fish to get better loot.

Look for these barrels.

Where To Find Fishing Rods:

Fishing Rods are common ‘weapons’ that spawn just about anywhere, but you can also almost always find them on piers. Check the docks near Misty Meadows — there are fishing rod barrels. Smash (or search) these barrels for a guaranteed fishing rod.

The easiest places to look are always by the water. You don’t want to try fishing on the sea — it’s better to stay on the rivers that snake through the island map. Find small docks, and you’ll always find a fishing rod.

Aim where the fish are biting.

Where To Fish For Better Loot:

Tossing your fishing rod into any random spot of water will give you less-than-ideal results. You’ll usually find low-quality weapons and tiny fish. No, if you want Blue / Purple rarity weapons and healthy large fish to heal up, you’ll want to find special fishing spots.

Look for schools of fish on the water. They’re white circles of foam with fish bouncing out — those are by far the best spots to fish. You’ll find large fish that heal you more, along with way better rarity gear. I usually got blue or purple — much better than gray or green.
