Earlier today we got the first official announcement that Sony would be bringing out their next-generation console, the PlayStation 5 sometime in the holiday season of 2020. This gives us a launch window for their new upcoming console, but the fine details of what this new system can provide for gamers is still under wraps. During the same blog post, Sony also offered some insight into the next-generation controller.
It doesn’t have a name attached yet though it very well could just be dubbed the DualShock 5. Sony’s president and CEO of SIE took to the official PlayStation blog in order to post about the holiday 2020 release of their PlayStation 5 along with its new controller. The new controller is all about adding another level of immersion where it said to have haptic feedback.
Instead of a traditional rumble feature, the new controller will be able to offer a wide variety of rumbles to make you feel more texture in-game along with adding a difference between a car crash to something like your protagonist getting punched. Furthermore, the triggers have been tweaked to allow resistance.
Developers can program the resistance of the triggers so that you feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain. In combination with the haptics, this can produce a powerful experience that better simulates various actions. Game creators have started to receive early versions of the new controller, and we can’t wait to see where their imagination goes with these new features at their disposal.
Developers will be able to add new resistance to the triggers to give another sensation such as pulling a trigger of a gun to drawing a bow back to launch an arrow. We don’t have any designs or renders of what we can expect with this new controller, but it should more or less look relatively the same as the previous generation models.
