The Dread Dormammu is one of the most aggravating bosses in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 — and he might just be one of the most difficult. He uses a unique gimmick that you won’t find anywhere else, and it’s just tricky enough to be incredibly annoying. Especially when you screw up. Because this boss gave me a headache, I’m going to share my strategies and tips with you.
Unlike most of the bosses, simply leveling up isn’t enough to make this boss easier. His stagger meter constantly refills, and normal attacks aren’t enough to bring his meter down. You need to use stones infused with dark magical energy.
He’s a pain in the butt. If you got stuck on this big demonic dork like I did, here’s all the info I’m fit to share.

How To Defeat Dormammu | Chapter 6 Boss Guide
Dormammu is the massive final boss of Chapter 6: Dark Dimension, and he’s also one of the most difficult if you don’t know how to beat him. Brute force won’t work against Dormammu — if you’re stuck and struggling, here’s a few tips and a quick explanation to help you understand his mechanics a little bit better.
How To Stagger Dormammu: The boss will recover his stamina quickly, so there’s only one way to deplete his stagger meter — you have to use crystals. While you need to use the crystal mechanics to progress through the level, it doesn’t quite explain exactly how the crystals work.
Crystals are a special mechanic that is only found in this boss battle. Crystals are dropped by special enemies — defeat the Mindless Ones with crystal growths on their backs to make more crystals appear.
After collecting a crystal, you’ll see a sphere shield appear around your character. This shield will grow bigger the more you absorb projectile attacks. It will ONLY protect you from projectiles. If you get hit with a physical attack, you’ll lose the crystal and have to get another one.
While holding a crystal, you move much slower — you can absorb attacks from Mindless Ones or from Dormammu himself. Wait to pick the crystal up between Dormammu’s massive screen-clearing physical attacks. You can’t dodge with a crystal, so you’ll just lose it. Wait for an attack, then collect a crystal.
Stay far away from the respawning Mindless Ones — they’ll inevitably hit you with physical attacks if you’re close. Wait to absorb one attack, or run underneath fireballs. Attacks with Dormammu’s arms or giant rocks will not be absorbed, but fireballs and lighting will. Stand under lightning, or any projectile, and the shield around you will grow.
Once it grows, you can throw the crystal. Full of energy, it will drain 50% or more of Dormammu’s stagger meter. The more you charge it, the more damage you’ll do. Personally, I recommend only charging the shield until it grows, then immediately throwing it. The longer you carry it, the more likely you’re going to lose it.
It only takes two charged crystals to stagger Dormammu, then you can hit him hard. Don’t waste your Extreme attacks — save those for the final sequence.
Between rounds, Dormammu will erect unbreakable shields. Simply hit the shields with two charged crystals to destroy them. It isn’t easy, but once you know how crystals work, it’s much easier.
Final Phase: For the final short phase, Dormammu does not use any projectile attacks at all. Save your Extreme attacks and unleash them on Dormammu here to take down the last sliver of his health.
Dormammu won’t use any projectiles in the final rush, so just attack him and ignore the crystals. Extreme attacks take him down faster, but normal attacks are good enough too.
Congratulations! Dormammu is one of the most aggravating bosses in the game. If you know how his weird mechanics work, he’s a little easier. Still incredibly annoying, though.
