A lot of multiplayer modes eventually gather a following while other modes will see the same few thousand players on a daily basis. To reassess the multiplayer modes for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity threw away all the modes and one-by-one discussed why a mode should stay or leave.
The team wanted to cut as many modes as possible and instead introduce new modes to replace the empty spaces. At the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer reveal, Infinity Ward debuted new modes Cranked, Search and Rescue and Blitz. Fan favourites like Search and Destroy and Domination will return, and new modes like Infected and Hunted will take the place removed modes.
Unlike the single player, multiplayer ideas start from a pitch and then turn into actual modes for testing. The team at Infinity Ward then tests the multiplayer on a regular basis to determine if those new modes work as well as their concepts. The result of this process created games modes like Cranked where players must kill within a set duration of time or else they will explode.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and PC on November 5th.
