Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the latest entries in the monster-catching franchise ready to make their debut on the 3DS, will include a trio of classic starter Pokémon that should tug on your nostalgic strings. It was revealed this morning during the Pokémon Direct that new trainers will be able to choose from classic Pokémon Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle when the titles launch worldwide Oct. 12. These are the same creatures you grew to know and love on the Red and Blue versions back in 1998.
The news doesn’t stop there, though. One of the biggest features that Nintendo has been touting when it comes to X and Y is the ability for Pokémon to Mega Evolve through the use of a unique Mega Stone. By obtaining a specific bracelet dubbed the Mega Ring that holds a mysterious stone called a Key Stone, players will be able to bring their favorite creatures to a whole new level. The above trailer shows the recently confirmed starter Pokémon in their highest state of evolution.
The Direct also revealed a feature called the Pokémon Bank, which will allow players to store up to 3,000 different Pokémon online. It’s a massive increase from what’s normally seen, but with this new service comes a nominal, annual fee. More information will be revealed in the near future about the Bank.
Lastly, the North American 3DS XL special Pokemon X and Pokemon Y bundles now have a date and a price. They will come in Red or Blue and display new Legendary Pokémon Xerneas and Yveltal. The systems will launch Sept. 27 for just $199.99.
