Resident Evil is a staple video game genre for survival horror. It’s been around for decades and over the years we’ve received a number of great titles. One title, in particular, Resident Evil, the first installment to the franchise has received a few remakes and overhauls. Each was well-received by fans and critics alike, but over the years there was a clear plea from the fan base. Resident Evil gamers wanted Capcom to remake Resident Evil 2 and after years of requesting, it finally happened. While it took Capcom a few years after its official announcement to release the game, fans all over the world are once again enjoying Resident Evil 2 but on current generation platforms.
Just as they did with Resident Evil’s remake, the sequel was left mostly the same. Outside of the obvious graphical improvements, Capcom made some slight subtle changes to the mechanics which would allow players to easily pick the game up today rather than using the fixed camera and tank style controls from when the game first released. At any rate, there is now some speculation and requests that Capcom keeps this trend up and release the next installment as a remake.
As a result, it wasn’t going to be too long before we get some developers talking about the possibility of Resident Evil 3 coming out a remake. During an interview with a Japanese magazine publication, Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi stated that the only reason Resident Evil 2 was remade is because the fan requests that came in. As a result, Hirabayashi stated that Capcom would require fans to request Resident Evil 3 to be remade before they went through with the production.
Something tells me that with the amount of success Resident Evil 2 had and fan approval since it released into the market, Capcom is likely already well into the start of remaking Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. Of course, that is purely speculation on my part.
