At the tail end of a special presentation video in Pokemon Game Show, Nintendo and Pokemon Company spoiled a short clip hinting at a possible upcoming Pokemon Game.
First things first, Pokemon Game Show happened over the last weekend. Visitors at Tokyo Big Sight, a convention center, got to try out Pokemon X and Y, Pokemon Tretta Lab, as well as the latest Pokemon card game. Nintendo also had a special video celebrating the 17 years of the franchise.
The video shows Pikachu popping out of a Game Boy screen, straight out of Pokemon Red, and making his way across different consoles and games, waving and greeting to different starter Pokemon from different games along the way. Aside from the main series, they showed off games like Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Channel, and a few milliseconds of Pokemon Battle Revolution. They then show Pikachu entering a TV screen to come out floating on a Pokemon Card, running across other Pokemon cards, as well as Pokemon Tretta tiles, before making his way up a Tretta arcade machine, to continue walking aside a Wii U playing Pokemon Scramble U, and finally, reaching his destination: Two 3DS XLs playing Pokemon X and Y, respectively.
And then the video blurs out, like some secret VHS message. The last few seconds of footage show Lucario and Blaziken facing off in the city streets. If you ask me, they are posed a little bit too much like some famous street pugilists, but let me leave a screenshot from Street Fighter Alpha 2 here so you can judge for yourself.
Fans are already speculating and declaring this could be a new Wii U Pokemon game, but just to be contrary, let me point out that this could, in fact, be a new 3DS game. Don't think for a moment that Pokemon X and Y is the best a Pokemon game can look on that system. To bring you down to earth, this might not even be a game at all (For example, it could be a CG movie.) However, that is not going to stop people from speculating, and it certainly grabbed the fans' imagination. Kudos Nintendo, you have our attention again.
